When I learned how to “spin” wedges I was taught to hit with a steep angle, descending blow and an open face with a high lofted club. Thanks to Tim Mitchel at Pelican Hill and his Trackman I learned this is not correct. When we learned these shot we were taught more on feel than science. There is a correct way to create
*Optimum launch trajectory 25-35 degrees.
*Club path from in to out with a closed face to path.
*Very shallow angle of attack, brush the grass.
*Do not catch the ball in the sweet spot, make contact on groove 2 or 3, bottom of the club or “thin”
With this above information you will find you spin the ball less with a 60 degree wedge that with a 52 degrees wedge. So you will need to decide which is more important, spin or trajectory.
You should get to Pelican Hill and have Tim Mitchell help you with your stats, swing and knowledge.

You can also spend a little time and learn the actual distance and ball flight characteristics of all your clubs, see below.
