How to hit the ball longer

There are tons of lessons, videos and opinions on how to hit is longer and some are even helpful.  You can separate how to create speed into the arms and body.  The arms are used as a lever which create a bunch of speed and the body creates speed through the kinematic sequence.   This sounds technical and confusing but it is really pretty simple.

This kinematic sequence is just describing how the body moves and in what order.  If you put tour players together they charts will look a little different but the sequence will be very simular.

The Bottom Line

If you want to hit the ball close to your potential you will need to have a fairly good sequence.

  1.  The hips start to move towards the target at the top of the swing
  2. The upper body then starts to rotate following the hips
  3. The arms then start to accelerate.

Most poor players start the downswing applying force with the arms first.  So make sure your sequence is correct and then we will discuss how to create more power in the next article.

The next article will cover if you get your power from lateral, rotational or vertical motion…..
